Frequenty Asked Questions

1. I can't use Floor Warming because I already have my floors finished with linoleum tile. The floors are cold though, can you help me?
Yes. Energy Solutions ceiling panels are the solution to warm the floor, in cases such as this. Contact us for an evaluation and design recommendation.
2. Are the operating electric costs significantly more than other electric heat?
Actually, radiant ceiling panels consume approximately one-third to one-half less energy than conventional "hot air" systems. Radiant heat is a natural form of heat that the body reacts to directly. With this thermal comfort system, you are more comfortable at lower temperatures, so less energy is used. On a spring day, the air temperature can be quite cool. But should the sun poke out from behind a cloud, you instantly feel warm. The sun is a radiant heater and heats you directly. Energy Solutions radiant ceiling system warms exactly like the sun.
3. What percentage of homes in North America are heated using this form of energy? If a low percentage, why isn't it more popular since it sounds so great?
There has been a tremendous growth in the use of radiant heating over the past several years. A larger percentage of new houses are using radiant heat every year, since it is far more comfortable. The percentage is still low overall because of huge inventory of older homes, using dated heating systems. In Europe 95% of the homes are heated with Radiant as opposed to 5% in America.

4. What is the cost per square foot for installation?
The cost depends on where you live and the type of home you are building. Milder climates need less heat than colder climates. We provide quotes customized for you. Suffice it to say, you will be pleasantly surprised at how cost-effective our thermal comfort systems are, compared to others…and that doesn't even take into consideration the superb comfort you will have. In addition, due to the energy savings you will receive, in a few short years our thermal comfort system pays for itself.
5. Can I heat my entire home this way?
Yes. Most homeowners want to be comfortable throughout their home, although the choice is yours on how you wish to heat your home. Energy Solutions can heat a whole home or building or just individual rooms, our quotes are based on room-by-room analysis. We'll even provide you an estimate on what it will cost to operate your Radiant system per year.
6. Where should the Architectural Series be used?
These panels are ideal for use where there is high heat loss. For example, they are used in office towers, where there is a large amount of glass. In this instance, the panels are installed in the ceiling next to the glass. Architectural Series panels are especially ideal for healthcare facilities because they provide spot heating without blowing contaminants into the air. They can also be used in home garages and many other structures. A SmartRooms representative will be happy to recommend the best thermal energy option for you.
7. What is included in the system’s warranty?
Each product has a different warranty. Our product warranty documents are available in downloadable PDF file format, here.

8. How many rooms can be connected to one thermostat?
The answer to that question depends on your structure’s heat loss and local building codes. However, for ultimate comfort and energy efficiency, it is usually best to have each room as a separate climate zone.
9. My electrician has never seen these before. How hard are they to install?
All of our thermal comfort systems are very easy to install. Our step-by-step installation guides and video tutorials make it simple. In addition, your Energy Solutions representatives are available to assist. Feel free to Contact Us for help!
10. How much does it cost to operate this system?
Fuel rates are different throughout North America, so providing an accurate cost estimate is difficult until we speak with you and determine your area. Based on what our customers have told us, operating costs are competitive, if not lower than, other types of heating systems, regardless of the fuel source. We do provide an estimate of your heating costs using radiant comfort by Energy Solutions based on your home's design, local climate and local energy rates. Once you factor this in with the comfort offered, we’re confident your choice will be easy.
11. As a general idea, what is the recommended rule of thumb for watts per square foot?
Because each person’s level of comfort is unique, we hesitate to recommend a baseline rule of thumb measurement regarding watts per square foot. The combination of your structure, thermal comfort system design and local climate makes your project exclusive. Energy Solutions representatives are trained to design a thermal comfort system to your unique indoor environment needs. Let us know where you are located and we'll have a representative contact you.

12. How does radiant heat work?
Heat (not to be confused with hot air) moves in all directions, from warmer to cooler surfaces or objects. Whenever there is a difference between two surfaces, both will attempt to equalize. Radiant heat travels through space without heating the space itself. Radiant Heating is not concerned with the heat loss of the room, but is instead focused on the heat loss of the people and objects in the room. When surrounded by surfaces that are roughly the same temperature as you, heat loss from your body is controlled, allowing you and all the objects in the room to feel comfortable.
